Vice City has long been one of the most iconic locations in Grand Theft Auto history. First introduced in GTA: Vice City back in 2002, the neon-soaked streets, palm trees, and 1980s vibes captured the imagination of millions. Now, in GTA 6, we’re finally returning to this fan-favorite city — but things have definitely changed.
GTA: Vice City – The Classic Era
Set in a fictional version of 1980s Miami, GTA: Vice City followed the rise of Tommy Vercetti in a city full of cocaine-fueled crime, pastel suits, and retro tunes. It was vibrant, over-the-top, and full of personality. Though the map was relatively small, it was rich with detail and cultural flair.
Technology Then vs. Now
Vice City in 2002 was created with the hardware limitations of the PS2 era. Fast-forward to GTA 6, and we’re getting a map that’s vastly more detailed, expansive, and lifelike. High-definition visuals, advanced lighting systems, and dynamic weather will bring Vice City to life in ways we’ve never seen before.
Vice City in GTA 6 – A New Era
From what we’ve seen in the trailers, GTA 6’s Vice City retains the coastal charm and tropical scenery but brings it into the modern era. Expect real neighborhoods, diverse characters, and environments inspired by modern-day Florida, complete with swamps, alligators, and dense cityscapes.
Map Expansion and Surrounding Areas
Unlike the original, GTA 6 won’t be limited to Vice City. The surrounding areas — the state of Leonida — will likely offer suburban zones, countryside, and other cities, greatly expanding the scale and variety of the game world.
Gameplay and Storytelling
The story and gameplay style in GTA 6 will be more grounded and character-driven, focusing on protagonists Jason and Lucia. This contrasts with the mobster movie feel of Tommy Vercetti’s rise to power in the original Vice City.
What’s Returning?
Expect plenty of nostalgic callbacks — locations, radio stations, and maybe even familiar characters or their descendants. Rockstar is known for honoring its legacy while pushing forward.
A Modern Take on a Classic World
GTA 6 is shaping up to be not just a return to Vice City, but a complete reinvention. With modern tech, deeper stories, and more immersive gameplay, the Vice City of 2026 will feel familiar but entirely new.
